DJI Air 3s Release Date and Rumors

The DJI Air series is a great balance between the budget line that is the DJI Mini series and the more high-end high-priced Mavic line.

The latest in the line – the DJI Air 3 – was released in July 2023 after a long wait and much speculation.

However, people were surprised to see a smaller 1/1.3″ sensor instead of 1″ CMOS we saw in the previous Air 2s. Was it a downgrade, probably not because the actual camera results are quite an improvement over the Air 2s.

DJI Air 3s release date

This begs the question – will DJI come up with the Air 3s version with a dual 1″ sensor and if Yes, when can we expect the DJI Air 3s release date?

DJI Air 3s Release Date

There was a gap of roughly 1 year between the DJI Air 2 and Air 2s. The 2s came out with an improved camera, better flight range, and battery timing.

Looking at this, we can say that the DJI Air 3s will be released in July 2024.

This isn’t just a guess. To arrive at this date, we have to look at other expected product updates scheduled for 2024.

  • The DJI Mini 4 Pro was released at the end of 2023 so we can safely assume that there won’t be a new Mini drone in 2024.
  • The DJI Mavic 4 is expected in 2024 but DJI has always reserved the Q4 slot for its flagship release so it will be expected in November 2024.
  • The DJI Avata is rumored to be getting an upgrade as well in 2024 but since its a niche product, they might release it during the April slot.

This leaves the July slot open for the Mavic Air 3s upgrade.

What can we expect from Air 3s?

In my opinion, we have reached that point with current Drone technology where every new model is a marginal improvement on the previous one. There aren’t many things left that can drastically improve any aspect of it.

With that been said, the two most expected changes in DJI Air 3s compared to the Air 3 will be a bigger 1″ sensor and slightly better flight time.

The Air 2s came with a 1″ CMOS sensor but with Air 3 dual camera system, DJI used a smaller 1/1.3″ sensor. This might seem a downgrade on paper but the actual photo quality has improved.

With the Air 3s we might see DJI going back to 1″ sensor for even more life-like photos and videos.

We might also see better battery timing with improved battery tech.

Apart from these, any other significant change will be a surprise at this point.

What do you think we can expect in the DJI Air 3s? Leave your opinion (and wish list) in the comments below.
